All this very personal, starting from the question – what is romance to you? Is it lot of tears and unreachable happiness, or is it smiles and flirting with some touch of comedy? Do you prefer old classic romance or the latest releases with fresh approach? Well, we start the discussion here by introducing some of the romantic Hindi movies, but the list on this site is never perfect until you have spoken as well.
Devdas
The story of love that is based on a romantic Bengali novel has been put on cinema screen for more than ten times by now. In 2002 it was released in five languages in attrition to Hindi and Punjabi, making it available to Germans, French, Chinese, Thai and English speaking world. It really is a very sad love story, which is beautifully and so well preformed by the actors. Lot of production effort was put into the movie as well, which ended up making it the most expensive Bollywood film by that time. The movie really is a gift to the audience and will be watched by many generations to come, taking them back to Calcutta and Bengal in the beginning of 20th century.
Mughal-E-Azam
If one talks about Hindi romantic movies, then Mughal-E-Azam is really a must in the list. It is an elegant, but again very sad story of love. This romantic movie has been gifted to Bollywood audience twice, both times with huge success. It was released in 1960 and for 15 years it stayed as the highest-grossing Hindi movie. In 2004 the restored colored version was released, bringing it again to the top: reminding the older audience about their romantic moments from the past and bringing this amazing love story to the discussions of today’s youngsters. I guess love stories really don’t get out of date.
DDLJ – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
DDLJ is a romantic comedy that was released in 1995. The film is so light and warm; Shahrukh Khan is so cute and young there and the music is amazing. This is one of the romantic movies that can make you happier. It is one of the few Indian movies listed in “1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die”. So go for it!!
