It was already in 1930s that Punjabi cinema had its kick off, starting with Sheila, the first Punjabi talkie movie. But it was really the 60s and 70s, when the industry started to blossom. Many great Punjabi movies have been released though out this time and here we are collecting thoughts and feelings on what are the best Punjabi movies ever. We initiate this discussion by mentioning some of the best films here, but you are more than welcome to share your thoughts on this, as the list can never be perfect without your input to it. Are you into old classics or recent releases? Do you favor some films mostly because of the Punjabi movie song they have gifted to the audience? Maybe there is an actor or an actress, who can make every film perfect for you.

Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai
Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai, which was released in 1969, was and still is somewhat magical and legendary. The movie was so well done, became a huge success and also received a National Award’s Certificate of Merit. But it is most probably the music of the film that keeps this movie alive throughout the times. Mohinder, the legendary and one of the best music directors of Indian cinema, has really put his hart and talent into this masterpiece. Mere Sahib Mere Sahib, Kal Taran Guru Nanak Aya, Re Man Ayso Kar Sanyasa have become important classics among old Punjabi movie songs.
Chan Pardesi
Chan Pardesi, which was released in 1980, brought new level to Punjabi cinema scene and also won the National Award as best feature film. It is considered as one of the ever best Punjabi movies. The film made a valuable input to the scene of Punjabi music as well.
Hashar… A love story
This beautiful film called Hashar… A love story, has gifted romantic moments to the fans of Punjabi movies since 2008. It is very easy to relate to this story if you are young or feel young in your hart. Aaj din hashar da kal main nai rehna, a sad song from the movie, which is sang by a famous Punjabi singer Babbu Mann, became a huge hit and is loved by so many till today.
Dil Apna Punjabi, Des Hoyaa Pardes, Waaris Shah and Mannat come to my mind as well. Mannat gave us Pani Diyaan Challan and Umran Di Sanjh – new Punjabi movie songs that are loved by many.
